River Cree Casino Entrance Renovation

66 screw piles. Two phases. One entrance kept open.

Replacing an uneven entrance slab at River Cree Casino in Enoch, Alberta, called for more than a foundation installation. The casino’s main entrance needed to remain open while crews worked beneath an existing canopy, handled heavy materials and responded to changing ground conditions.

Working with Pagnotta, Screw Pile Pros installed the helical pile foundation for the replacement slab. Both installation phases finished ahead of their allotted schedules, and the relationship led directly to another, larger project.

The challenge: replace the slab while keeping the entrance open

The existing entrance slab had become uneven and presented a tripping hazard. The replacement work was divided into two phases so guests could continue entering the casino throughout construction.

Wood panels and site fencing separated the work area from the public. Beyond that enclosure, unloading equipment, staging steel piles and moving materials required constant awareness of pedestrians and the surrounding site.

The work also coincided with the opening of Hell’s Kitchen at River Cree, adding a memorable backdrop to a project already taking place at a busy entrance.

Limited overhead clearance, careful installation

The existing canopy restricted overhead clearance. Screw Pile Pros installed the piles in 10-foot sections: a 10-foot lead pile followed by a 10-foot extension to reach the planned 20-foot depth.

The crew installed 66 piles with 4½-inch shafts and two 16-inch helices per pile, along with extensions, coating work, and welded caps and brackets.

Working within the confined entrance area required careful equipment positioning and operation throughout the installation.

Responding to changing ground conditions

A preliminary load test confirmed the pile design at the tested 20-foot depth. During production installation, however, ground conditions varied across the work area. Some piles required additional extensions to achieve the required installation torque, reaching approximately 30 feet and, at the deepest locations, approximately 40 feet.

The crew installed 41 additional 10-foot extensions, bringing the project total to 107 extensions.

The distinction mattered: the load test established performance at the test location, while production installation still required the team to respond to conditions at each pile location.

A delayed start and a determined team

The second phase began approximately three weeks later than originally scheduled after a project-related shipment was held at customs. By then, Screw Pile Pros had other installations booked, creating a demanding coordination challenge.

The team adjusted around those commitments, managed a staffing change and brought a new employee into the crew during the project. They maintained a calm, professional approach and worked extended hours to keep the installation moving.

One evening, the crew stayed until approximately 9 p.m. to finish installing the piles so cap work could proceed the following day.

The result: early finishes and repeat business

Each phase took approximately three to four days, compared with the five to six days allotted per phase. Both finished early despite the additional extensions and scheduling pressures.

Screw Pile Pros received repeated positive feedback about the crew’s professionalism, installation work and equipment. The clearest expression of that confidence came immediately afterward: Pagnotta awarded Screw Pile Pros another project, larger than the River Cree entrance work.

For Screw Pile Pros, this project reflects what dependable commercial foundation work requires—careful planning, skilled installation, steady teamwork and a practical response when site conditions change.
