Our Origin - Northern Alberta - Built to Last

Fort McMurray is Where Screw Pile Pros Began

Screw Pile Pros was founded in Fort McMurray in 2016. This is where we built our engineering-first reputation, where we learned to work in northern Alberta’s demanding ground conditions, and where the standards we now apply across all seven locations were established. Fort McMurray isn’t just a market we serve – it’s where we came from.

Northern Alberta’s soil conditions are unlike anywhere else in the province. Muskeg – the soft, peaty organic soil that covers much of the Wood Buffalo region – presents unique engineering challenges that most southern Alberta installers have never worked in. Add in clay, silt, sand, and gravel layers that vary dramatically across sites, and you have a foundation environment where engineering experience matters more than anywhere else in Alberta.

We have installed tens of thousands of piles across Alberta’s most challenging conditions. Fort McMurray is where that experience was built.

Our Founding Location - Since 2016

Screw Pile Pros started right here in Fort McMurray. The RMWB is one of our longest-standing clients, and our northern Alberta experience is the foundation everything else we do is built on.

⚠ Muskeg & Northern Soil Expertise

Muskeg - the soft, peaty soil common across the Wood Buffalo region - requires pile designs that account for low load-bearing capacity in organic layers and varying bearing strata below. We have engineered and installed foundations in muskeg conditions across northern Alberta. It's not something we've read about - it's something we've built in.

Why Screw Pile Pros

What Sets Us Apart in Fort McMurray

Northern Alberta’s construction environment demands more from a foundation installer. Here’s what we bring to every Wood Buffalo project – built from 10 years of experience in the north.

The Government of Alberta spec allows 2-3 inches of deviation. We install to 1/8 inch - approximately 24 times tighter. Critical in northern Alberta's variable soils where pile placement accuracy determines structural performance.

100%

Stamped Documentation
Every Fort McMurray project includes a PE-stamped torque report, as-built drawings, and shop drawings - ready for RMWB permit submission and engineering package requirements on day one.

3 Days

Mobilization Anywhere in Alberta
Northern Alberta projects get the same 3-day mobilization commitment as every other location. We plan properly and show up when we say we will - Fort McMurray contractors know what that's worth.

All residential construction in Fort McMurray falls under the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s permit requirements. Our PE-stamped torque reports, as-built drawings, and shop drawings meet RMWB documentation requirements for residential and commercial permit applications. Because northern Alberta soil conditions vary so significantly, our engineering documentation also confirms pile depth adequacy for your specific site – not just a standard spec depth. Common Questions

Fort McMurray Screw Pile FAQ

Straight answers to the questions Fort McMurray homeowners, contractors, and engineers ask us most.

Muskeg – the soft, peaty organic soil common across Wood Buffalo – has low load-bearing capacity in its upper layers. Screw piles are engineered to pass through the muskeg and weak strata above to reach competent bearing soil deeper in the ground. We assess muskeg depth and bearing strata on every Fort McMurray project before designing the pile specification – no guesswork.
Yes – Fort McMurray is where we started in 2016 and the RMWB is one of our longest-standing clients. Our PE-stamped torque reports, as-built drawings, and shop drawings meet RMWB documentation requirements for both residential and commercial permit applications. Your permit package is complete the day we finish the install.
Yes. We have completed foundation projects for Indigenous housing developments including Chard Metis Nation and Fort McKay Metis Nation across Wood Buffalo. We handle remote site access, northern logistics, and full turnkey foundation systems from lot prep to completion – no travel charges.
Yes – no travel charges anywhere in the Wood Buffalo region or across Alberta. We serve Anzac, Gregoire Lake, Fort McKay, Janvier, Conklin, Chard, Fort Chipewyan, and remote sites across northern Alberta. Fort McMurray is where we started – we know this region and we serve all of it.
Northern Alberta’s frost penetrates to 7-8 ft – deeper than anywhere else in the province. Beyond frost depth, pile length in Fort McMurray also depends on muskeg depth and the depth to competent bearing soil on your site. Every project requires a site-specific assessment. We design pile depth based on your actual ground conditions, not a standard number.
Yes. We have been installing screw piles through northern Alberta winters since 2016. We offer ground thawing services for frozen ground conditions and can work year-round through Fort McMurray’s severe winters. No concrete curing delays, no waiting for spring – your project stays on schedule.

Yes – on every single project without exception. Northern Alberta’s variable soils make torque documentation especially important – it confirms load capacity was reached through your site’s specific soil layers, not just assumed from a standard depth. Our full documentation package is delivered within 3 business days of completion.

Fort McMurray’s ground conditions include muskeg, clay, silt, sand, and gravel that can vary dramatically across a single site. The combination of deep frost penetration, organic soil layers, and variable bearing strata means pile design in northern Alberta requires more engineering rigour than anywhere else in the province. This is exactly what our engineering-first approach was built for.
